The story of our success

Nalgene 75 year timeline

1949

Chemist Emanuel Goldberg developed the first plastic pipette jars in Rochester, New York, laying the groundwork for a new era of practical, durable labware.

1960 - A Walk in the Woods

Our scientists (who were also avid hikers) hit the trails with one of their lightweight lab bottles, creating a new category of original reusable water bottles for hikers, travelers, athletes, and everyday users alike.

1970

As the "Pack In/Pack Out" movement built momentum, more and more outdoor enthusiasts turned to Nalgene bottles to create less waste on their excursions.

1980

We made our way onto the global stage as the official water bottle for the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team and the "Miracle On Ice."

1990

The introduction of color transformed our bottles into vibrant, must-have accessories, elevating their appeal.

2022

After decades of innovation, we took a giant leap forward by converting our entire bottle line to our new Sustain bottles, made from 50% recycled plastic.
